Here Goes Nothing!

Wow, the feeling of staring at a blank page doesn't change when you are writing for a blog.  That is for certain.  Oh well!

Developing this professional blog is a requirement for a course I am taking toward my B.Ed, called A Pedagogy of Multiliteracies.  I had never considered starting a blog before, but the more I think about it, the more I am into it.  Having a blog will be useful for exploring issues and ideas related to education, as well as helpful for my reflective practice.

Below is a survey that I have redesigned for use with future English students, based on a survey written by my instructor, Danika Barker. Most of the changes that I made to the survey were fairly minor. The main difference between my survey and Danika's would be the questions relating to the multiple intelligences. While I fully support teaching to the multiple intelligences and aim to incorporate differentiated instruction into my practice, I have yet to find a suitable questionnaire for this purpose. I find that in general the questions lack validity; for example, a kinesthetic learner might not be especially coordinated or athletic, but instead prefers a hands-on approach to learning. I also asked, "what would your ideal class be like?" Students' answers may give clues as to their preferred style of learning. They may indicate that they like group work, games, silent reading... or maybe they could make up something completely unrealistic, letting their creativity shine! Anyways, here it is:
